DAYS 1-4

Meet the local OneSeed Innovation Labs and settle into your hostel in the center of Moshi, Tanzania where you'll get to know your OneSeed Labs peers.

IMG_0029.JPG

The next few days will be spent at Kili Hub, your "Base" for programing in Moshi that serves as a community for small business owners and entrepreneurs dedicated to innovation and collaboration including Anza, an incubator for social enterprises in Tanzania. Here you will learn the fundamentals of entrepreneurship, including Designing with Empathy and Human-Centered Design.

Days will be broken up into programming at Kili Hub and excursions like visiting a local coffee farm to learn more about this small business. Meet with local entrepreneurs who have completed Anza's programming, and hear their stories of how they grew their business.

Select a challenge to focus on, identify the main customers who might benefit from your proposed business solution, and form working teams.

DAYS 5-8

Head to Nronga Village district located in the foothills of Mt. Kilimanjaro. Stay with a local family for four nights as you explore your surroundings and meet with locals.

Observe local businesses like a Women’s Dairy Cooperative to learn about the importance of dairy to the economy of the Nronga village. Continue to uncover opportunities for a product or service to improve lives and create job opportunities.

Spend time in Nronga prototyping your new business idea. Reviewing, processing, and brainstorming are essential to create any new business, and you’ll have your team members and your own experiences over the past week to draw from.

Rest up and get ready for your hike around the foothills of Mt. Kilimanjaro!

DAYS 9-14

Depart with only a daypack and begin hiking through villages, past giant waterfalls, and through forests with the perfect view of Kilimanjaro as a backdrop. Take a break in the afternoon to continue prototyping your business and begin drafting your final pitch decks.

During your second day of trekking, think of all you’ve seen and learned over the past 10 days. Be sure to consult with your team members and group leaders as you work on your pitch deck over the next couple days.

On Pitch Day, present your plan for a new business to your fellow team members, teachers, and the local entrepreneurs you met at the beginning of your time in Moshi.

The final day is one of reflection and celebration. How has your view of entrepreneurship evolved during your time in Tanzania? Consider how you fit into the community in Tanzania and at home. How has this experience changed you? What challenges do you want to take on next?

HOME BASE - MOSHI

Kili Hub is a coworking space and community that houses a variety of Tanzania-based start-ups where our Labs programming will take place when we're not in the field. It's more than just a building, it's an inspiring community of changemakers. It's a space where innovation and collaboration collide through opportune moments and serendipitous meetings.

Many of our local mentors are members of Anza, a company in Kili Hub that assists local entrepreneurs in starting and scaling businesses that address socioeconomic or environmental problems. Past and current Anza entrepreneurs own and operate businesses that provide solar in rural areas, ceramic water filters to prevent disease, and affordable refurbished computers for schools with limited to no access to technology.
